A Fantastic two weeks for the Junior team May 22 - 31
It started off with Wilbraham. This game was a bit frustrating because we were not getting open for passes, but we remained competitive. This year the Wilbraham players were very well behaved and we all appreciated that.
A great victory we had in Longmeadow. Who would have thought it to be true!
We are the first and only female lacrosse team in Northampton to beat Longmeadow!
A good competitive game at home with Agawam on 5/30. We played well and everyone is getting a chance to move the ball and gain confidence.
A win and a record 13 points scored at home against Westfield was a great way to end the week. Briana, Meghan, and Mercedes each got hat tricks. Our usual subs started and played well. Kudos to Ali, Kyla, Sadie, Zoe, and Madeline.

Jamboree
Juniors at the Longmeadow Jamboree
We lost to Newtown 5 - 0 and Glastonbury 3 - 1.
We beat Cheshire 6 - 3.
Lost(but played well) against Simsbury 6 - 2.
The junior team learned alot and improved their game in Longmeadow on Saturday afternoon. Nicole and Kyla did a great job in the goal and on the field. Congratulations to Traesa, who played center for the first time, Olivia, Joni, Maddy, and Jamie for moving to the ball, both on the defense and offense.
Our great bunch of solid defensive players, Sara, Lindsay G., Maggie, Nicole, Mercedes and Kyla got the ball out of our 12 meter countless times. Madeline, Emma, and Zoe were working hard and were playing good defense.
Our offense did a good job too. Nora got a hat trick in the game against Cheshire. Quite an accomplishment from her one and only "accidental goal" from last year! Scorers also included Mercedes, Lindsay S. and Meghan. Nicole really wanted to score, had the opportunity, but alas she needs to practice her shot. Maybe she can get one in at the Bowers Tourney!

Junior games this week
5/10 Northampton 5 - Agawam 8
A great competitive game we had against Agawam. The score does not represent the hard work and improved play our girls accomplished on the field. Despite her stick problems, Nicole did a great job in the goal with at least 4 saves and good clearing.
Our defense is working hard, starters Sara, Lindsay G., and Kyla are improving with every game. Midfielders Nora, Briana, Treasa, Joni, Jamie, Maddy, Emma, and Olivia are moving the ball like they should. Offensive starters Mercedes, Maggie, and Meaghan are shooting harder and scoring. Our subs, Madeline, Zoe, Sadie, Ali, and Camryn are improving as they play. I'm really proud of all of you and I'm looking forward to next weeks games and practice and the Longmeadow Jamboree!
OUR HOME GAME AGAINST LONGMEADOW IS CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN. I will try to reschedule.

Western Mass Lacrosse
A letter from Cliff Hedges:
Tryouts for the Western Mass Lacrosse is by Coaches invite. Tryouts will be Saturday , May 6, 2006 at at Longmeadow H.S. girls lax field located at the corner of Bliss and Blueberry Hill Road. U-13- time starts promptly at 9am, so show up no later then 8:45 ready to go with ceats, goggles, a "no team t-shirt" and sticks. U-13 tryouts will go to (around) 12:30;
These teams have been selected to participate in the upcoming USLAX Youth Festival, and at least two others tournaments on Xtream lax 7/8 and the other NE All Stars in mid July . In the 6 years that I have been the coordinator and U-15 coach, this has been a huge success for our Western Mass Chapter of USLAX and Western Mass lacrosse as a whole. This year the U-13 festival is at UMASS and the U-15 will be in Orlando, Fl.
Just an added note about player eligibility.
A player is only allowed to play once at each age level, per US Lacrosse rules. So a girl who played U-13 last year cannot play U-13 again even if she is age eligible. Therefore, it is a good idea to send your 7th graders to the U-13 tryout rather than the U-15 even if they make the age cutoff. They will then still be eligible for U-15 as an 8th graders. Please keep in mind that this is not Junior and Senior as in our league. It is U-13 and U-15. Any 7th grader whose 13th birthday falls after the first of the year is eligible to try out for the U-13 team.
An added note: We are considering adding a fourth tourney for both teams, Nutmeg State Games, similar to the BayState Games. July 31st at Fairfield U in CT. Please make sure your girls and parents understand the time commitment before tryouts.
U-15 will follow at 1PM until 4:30-5:00. April 22, 2006 in Recent News

2006 is here!
There is still snow on our field, but the Leeds gym is warm and toasty. This means it is time for our registration clinic, and time to kick of the 2006 lacrosse season!
Last year our teams had strong seasons. The junior team won their first game, and the seniors posted a winning season that included a good scare against a Longmeadow team! In addition, five players represented Northampton on the Western Mass All-Star Teams.
We can’t wait to make the 2006 season even more exciting and more fun! The senior team will have a second coach, Gary Keefe, and Coach Pepin went to the US Lacrosse convention in Philadelphia this winter to learn about the new rules in place for this season. He also watched the US women’s lacrosse team practice and brought back some terrific drills. (Hint: they involve sprinting!)
We’re going to kick off the 2006 season with our annual registration clinic in the gym at Leeds School on February 22, 2006. Bantams will play from 9:00 to 10:30. Juniors will play from 11:00 to 12:30. Seniors will play from 1:00 to 2:30. Your coaches will be Coach Biggs, the high school varsity coach, and some of her best players! They will be dividing new and returning players into groups to help everyone get off to a great start.
Here are the details you need to know:
Returning Junior and Senior Players
Before the registration clinic, you each will receive a hold-harmless form. If you’re not the snail-mail type, you can download the hold-harmless form. Please have a parent fill this out and bring it with you to the clinic. We can’t let you play without it. You should also bring your US Lacrosse registration form (we’ll send it to you with a hold-harmless form). If you register the day of the clinic, the cost is $90. After that, the cost is $100.
You should also bring your stick, goggles, and mouth guard.
New 5th through 8th Grade Players
All players must have a signed hold-harmless form. We can’t let you play without it. You can download it here. We will have sticks, goggles, and mouth guards you can borrow for the day; if you decide to join our team this season, we will provide you with goggles and a mouth guard, and can help you choose a stick. Registration for new players is $90.
Bantam Players (up to 4th grade)
All players must have a signed hold-harmless form. We can’t let you play without it. You can download it here or we can mail one to you. We will have sticks you will be able to use, and there is no registration fee for Bantam players.
We’re really excited about the registration clinic, and our second annual ‘March Madness’ practices before our 2006 season kicks into full swing. Please set aside February 22 to come kick off our season; if you can’t come, you can mail your registration forms and a check (payable to NGYL) to Coach Pepin.
We’ll see you in the gym!
